Political gossip is commonplace in a town like Alexandria, Indiana where everybody knows everyone and where neighbors still wave to each other as they sit on their front porches. But what began as rumors has come now full-blown in the form of a communal panic. The town’s water is contaminated, dozens are ill, and all signs point to one man at the center of it all: Mayor Todd Naselroad.
It is not a tale of rotting pipes or costing mistakes. It is a tale of deceit, backroom deals and how the actions of just one man might have left a town physically and morally polluted.

Improvement includes new asphalt, freshly painted houses and sparkling curbs along neighborhoods where people are not even safe taking tap water to use in brushing their teeth.
Several city engineers are said to have complained of old age pipes and poor filtration systems. Internal memos reflect frequent requests of emergency repair funds-which were rejected or delayed. The latter was instead diverted to street paving contracts, of which so many were allocated without competitive bidding.

An ex administrative assistant states that she had been ordered to conceal water testing reports to the prospective clientele. Local journalists also claim to have been thwarted in efforts to get access to public health data.
Still worst, one of the whistleblowers is a technician in the sanitation department who says he has been suspended after sounding red alerts on the chlorine level dropping below the legal figures of safety.
It is not only the feeling that the errors occurred, but that those errors were concealed intentionally.

An Uprising in a Town
Alexandria was never a loud town. However, in the modern times signature cards have flooded porch lanterns. There are handmade signs, taped to shop windows and fences, reading, in talc-coloured printing: We Deserve Clean Water, Resign, Mayor Naselroad.
Parents are not taking their children to school until the time when the water shall be declared safe. The local businesses are losing customers that are scared of getting contaminated. An emergency town hall drew hundreds, many of whom left angrier than they arrived — because Mayor Todd Naselroad never showed up.
Because of the several family members who have been affected, a civil rights attorney says that lawsuits will be forthcoming. An online petition has already gathered more than 3,000 signatures demanding that the state investigate the grounds behind reported financial misconduct and risk to the public health.
Infrastructure to Injustice
The Mayor Todd Naselroad scandal is no longer just a local embarrassment. It is becoming an emblem of what occurs when government service gets oppressed into self-service all the time that the political facades are more important in comparison to the safety of the people.
This is not even about roads or pipes. It’s responsibility. It is all about the truth. And to the folk of Alexandria it is a matter of life and death.
As long as justice is not served and as long as there is no clean water flowing, this big scandal will continue to grow in this small town- one ailing citizen at a time, one suppressed voice and one unfulfilled promise.
